About

Pembroke School offers a comprehensive, inclusive, competitive and voluntary sports program. Our students embrace it, proudly representing their school on the sporting field. Many of the academic staff are involved in the sport program, enhancing their relationship with students, parents and the broader community. Pembroke’s sport program has always had an emphasis on participation and development, with the focus being on developing the players and team to be the best they can, whilst ensuring all students receive adequate opportunity to participate and compete.

Any student who registers to play a sport for Pembroke and fulfils the training commitments is provided with the opportunity to play for the school, regardless of ability. When there are opportunities to stream students into ability groups i.e. A and B sides, this is done based on trials and observations by coaching staff. The emphasis on winning increases as students move into senior years, but the stronger emphasis remains on individual development and students fulfilling their commitment to their sport and team. Currently, Pembroke students embrace the sport program on offer with over 90% of students representing the school on the sporting field.

Pembroke School enters over 250 teams into the regular competitions, of which 210 teams are from year 7 upwards. We offer one of the most diverse sporting program of any school in South Australia, competing in regular competitions in 24 different sports. In addition to this, Pembroke School participates in other sporadic competitions, such as surfing, orienteering, cycling, mountain biking and long-distance relays.

Pembroke School is a member of the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) and our boys’ teams compete predominantly in their programs. The School is also a member of the Independent Girls’ Schools’ Sports Association (IGSSA) which coordinates the competitions for our girls’ teams. Additionally the School is involved in programs approved by SASSSA, SACSSGSA and SAPSASA.
