Term 1 Sport – The Biggest Thank You
To the students, staff, officials, parents… everyone who has enabled and supported sport to go ahead at IGSSA in Term 1.
School sport has been a somewhat bumpy ride, significantly impacted by Covid interruptions, but we acknowledge our wonderful Member Schools for gearing into overdrive, giving every team in every sport the best opportunity to continue to participate on a weekly basis.
Despite uncertainty around IGSSA sporting competitions, our summer sports – basketball, tennis, volleyball, and cricket all remained strong. Healthy sporting rivalries between schools did not diminish, nor did the on-field smiles of our competitors, as all schools adopted the ‘show must go on’ approach. Covid-related absences placed strain on numbers, however it also provided many girls with opportunities to be promoted to higher grades. Some played in multiple teams. Some played sports they’d never tried before. Teachers became coaches. Coaches became umpires. Whatever it took to minimise the cancellation of sporting fixtures, so that those who were willing and able to play, did not lose their opportunity to do so. Congratulations to the Sport Coordinators from our 10 Member Schools for making it happen. You are, without a doubt, the backbone of IGSSA!
