Inspiring growth in young women through athletic achievement

We believe in the transformative power of sport participation to positively shape the futures of girls and young women. Through sports, they develop essential life skills like discipline, teamwork, and resilience, which empower them to grow in confidence and leadership.

Who we are

IGSSA is comprised of 10 Independent Schools in South Australia – Concordia College, Immanuel College, Pembroke School, Pulteney Grammar School, St Peter’s Girls’ School, Scotch College, Seymour College, Walford Anglican School for Girls, Westminster School and Wilderness School. Currently our ‘host school’ is Pembroke School. Other schools take part in IGSSA based competitions on occasions.

IGSSA provide regular Inter-school sports competitions across a range of sports: Summer – Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, and Cricket. Winter – AFL, Netball, Badminton, Soccer, and Hockey.

IGSSA also holds annual carnivals for Athletics and Swimming.

Objectives

  1. To provide the opportunity for all girls to participate in organised sports within the resources available to each member school.
  2. To provide a wide and general exposure to sports activities with a view to girls continuing the sport(s) of their choice into their adulthood.
  3. To encourage maximum school and student participation.
  4. To promote, develop and regulate Inter-School sports for girls in Year 3-12.
  5. To promote liaison with other Associations in matters of mutual interest.
  6. To conduct all sporting activities according to IGSSA Policy.

Ethos

To provide the opportunity for all girls to participate in organised sport within the resources available to each member school. To provide a wide and general exposure to sports activities with a view to girls continuing the sport/s of their choice into their adulthood. Its emphasis is on helping girls appreciate the value of physical activity, fair play, teamwork and good sportspersonship while building self-confidence, skill, self-discipline and responsibility.
