With five rounds down, the winter season of the Independent Girls Schools Sports Association (IGSSA) is officially at the halfway point, and has already delivered fierce competition, impressive teamwork, and standout performances across a range of sports.
Netball remains IGSSA’s most popular sport, with a massive 168 teams competing and over 900 games scheduled this winter! In the Shield competitions, Westminster leads the Premier League, undefeated with five wins. In close pursuit are Seymour, Immanuel, and Scotch to round out the top four. Immanuel dominates other Shield ladders, topping the Premier League Reserves, 10A, 9A, 8A, and 7A competitions. However, there is hot competition snapping at their heels – nine out of ten IGSSA schools hold top-four positions in at least one Shield competition.
In Hockey, Pembroke leads Senior A, while Walford takes the top spot in Senior B.
Soccer sees Pembroke at the top of the Premier League, with Scotch close behind. Wilderness is undefeated in both Division 1 and Middle A.
Football is tight in Senior A, with both Scotch and Seymour undefeated and Scotch leading on percentage. Immanuel is holding strong at the top of Senior B, while Seymour sits just behind and also leads Middle A, with Westminster also undefeated and close on their tail.
In Badminton, Pembroke has shown dominance, leading both Senior A and Senior B competitions.
Across all IGSSA competitions—Shield and non-Shield alike—players have consistently demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, team spirit, determination, and commitment. It’s been a rewarding first half of the season, and with a well-earned school holiday break on the horizon, athletes will no doubt return refreshed and ready for more action in Term 3.
